Wet lay paving in Perth
Wet lay paving is our core expertise. Pavers are set on a full mortar bed over a prepared slab, which gives a firm, stable surface with clean, consistent joints. It suits the areas that see the most use and the most scrutiny.
What wet lay paving is
In a wet lay job, each paver is bedded into mortar rather than loose sand. The mortar bonds the paver to the slab beneath it, so the surface stays tight and level under foot traffic, furniture and, where the base is designed for it, vehicles.
Because the pavers are fixed in place, the finished surface resists the shifting, settling and weed growth that can affect loose-laid paving over time. It is the method most often chosen for premium entertaining areas, pool surrounds and feature entries.
Where it works best
Wet lay paving is a strong choice for alfresco areas, pool surrounds, front entries, courtyards and driveways. It also suits stone and travertine pavers, where clean joints and a flat, even finish matter most.
The right method always depends on the site, the paver and how the area will be used. If you are unsure whether wet lay or dry lay block paving suits your project, we will talk it through with you and recommend what makes sense.
Getting the preparation right
A wet lay finish is only as good as the site preparation underneath it. Levels, falls and drainage are set out before any paver goes down, so water runs away from the house and the finished surface sits at the right height against doors, garden beds and neighbouring paving.
Joints are kept consistent and the surface is cleaned as we go, so the area is ready to use and looks right on handover.

Wet Lay Paving questions.
What is the difference between wet lay and dry lay paving?
Wet lay paving sets each paver in mortar over a slab, so the pavers are bonded in place. Dry lay paving sets pavers on compacted base and bedding sand, with sand between the joints. Wet lay is generally firmer and tighter, while dry lay is more flexible and easier to lift and relay. We do both and can advise which suits your project.
Is wet lay paving suitable for driveways?
It can be, provided the slab and base underneath are designed for vehicle loads. The suitability depends on the paver, the base and how the driveway will be used, so we assess each site before recommending a method.
Can you wet lay natural stone and travertine?
Yes. Wet lay is commonly used for natural stone and travertine because it gives a flat, stable surface with tidy joints. Stone can vary in thickness and finish, so we check the product with you before laying.
How long before I can walk on new wet lay paving?
Mortar needs time to cure before the area is used, and the time depends on the products used and the weather. We will tell you when it is safe to walk on and when it can take heavier loads, such as furniture or vehicles.
