Block and brick paving in Perth

Block and brick pavers are a durable, practical choice for driveways, courtyards and pathways. Laid properly over a compacted base, they give a clean, even finish with a classic look that suits both new builds and established homes.

How block paving is laid

Block paving is built from the ground up. The area is excavated, a compacted base is built, a bedding layer is screeded level and the pavers are laid to the pattern you have chosen. Edges are restrained so the paving holds its shape, and the joints are filled and the surface compacted.

Skipping or rushing the base is the most common reason block paving sinks or moves. Time spent on preparation is what makes the finished surface last.

Why people choose it

Block pavers come in a wide range of colours, textures and laying patterns, so you can match the paving to the house and the garden. Because the surface is made of individual units, a damaged section can be lifted and relaid without replacing the whole area.

It is a popular choice for driveways, front paths, entry steps, courtyards and areas around the home that need a durable, good-looking finish. For pool surrounds and alfresco areas where a fixed, tight finish matters most, wet lay paving is often the better fit.

Patterns and finish

Laying pattern changes the look and the strength of the finished surface. We will talk you through the options, including how cuts and edges will be handled, so there are no surprises once the job is under way.

Block Paving questions.

What is the difference between block paving and brick paving?

The terms overlap. Block paving generally means individual pavers laid as a surface, and brick pavers are one type of paver, usually clay or concrete units in a brick shape. The installation method is similar, and we can help you choose the product and pattern that suits the area.

Is block paving suitable for a driveway?

Yes, when it is built on a base designed for the loads involved. For driveways the depth and quality of the base are especially important, which is why we assess the site and the ground before we quote.

Can damaged pavers be replaced later?

Usually, yes. Block paving is made of individual units, so a section can be lifted and relaid if it is damaged or needs access for services. Keeping a few spare pavers from your job makes matching easier.

Do you remove old paving or concrete first?

We can discuss removal and site preparation as part of your quote. Describe what is currently on site when you get in touch, and we will cover it when we inspect the area.
